Confused about tipping

I complete agree with the person who wrote about servers and how tipping is so important to them. But I really wonder how tipping became connected to the price of food. If a server brings me a pizza, my tip would be $2-$3. If they brought me a steak or lobster my tip would need to be $10-$15. Why? Is carrying a lobster dinner to a table harder than carrying a pizza?
