An interesting coincidence of dates
In learning of the results of the French election, I noticed an apparent coincidence regarding the date of May 7.
On May 7, 2017, French voters, by a nearly two-to-one margin, rejected the far-right message of Marine Le Pen and, instead, voted for their youngest president ever and centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron.
On May 7, 1945, in the early hours before dawn, the German High Command shuffled into a schoolhouse in Reims, France, and signed the documents of complete and unconditional surrender before General Dwight Eisenhower and his staff, bringing an end to World War II in Europe and forever bringing an end to German Nazism.
Whatever else can be said, some wonderful events certainly have happened on May 7, and both of these events have happened in France.
