Commission backs Starbucks, City Works for Wheeling Town Center
Starbucks and City Works Eatery and Pour House have cleared another hurdle to open at the Wheeling Town Center development.
The village plan commission unanimously recommended approval of the coffeehouse with a drive-through and City Works, which will be the development's anchor restaurant. It would serve American food and more than 90 beers.
The next step will be winning approval from the village board.
The plan commission also approved some minor changes to the layout and size of buildings designated for commercial use within the $110 million Town Center development at Dundee Road and Northgate Parkway. The changes come as developer Lynnmark Group adjusts to the needs of potential tenants who have not yet been announced.
Businesses that have signed nonbinding letters of intent to open at the Town Center include Italian restaurant Terra Fiamma, Potbelly Sandwich Works, Noddles and Company, Andy's Frozen Custard and AT&T.
In all, the development will have about 100,000 square feet of commercial space, including a CMX movie theater with 10 screens. It also will feature a five-story, 300-unit luxury apartment building.
City Works, operated by Chicago-based Bottleneck Management, has a few of locations across the country, including Pittsburgh, Minneapolis and Miami-Dade County in Florida.
Just last week, the Schaumburg village officials announced it also will be getting a City Works.
