Recalls: digital printers, patio sets, circuit breakers, defibrillators, BBQ sauce

The following recalls have been announced:

-- About 64,000 counterfeit "Square D" circuit breakers, distributed by Connecticut Electric & Switch Mfg. Co. and manufactured in China, because the circuit breakers labeled "Square D" are counterfeit and could fail to trip when they are required to, posing a fire hazard to consumers. Connecticut Electric has received no reports of incidents or injuries. The counterfeit circuit breakers are black and are marked as Square D products. They were sold at electrical distributors and hardware stores nationwide from February 2005 through August 2006. -- Welch Allyn of Beaverton, Ore., is recalling 1,794 AED10 automatic external defibrillators because the products may fail or produce a delay in analyzing a patient's ECG and may not deliver appropriate therapy. This could possibly result in failure to resuscitate the patient. No injuries associated with this product have been reported, but the company reported 49 failures during internal testing and received three customer complaints.

The malfunctions include a flashing status indicator, excessive battery drain resulting in shortened battery life, continuous device resets rendering the device non-operational and no shock advised with a ventricular fibrillation input. The devices were manufactured between March 29 through Aug. 9 this year at the Welch Allyn Protocol Inc. facility in Beaverton, Ore. Owners of these defibrillators should call Welch Allyn at 800-462-0777 and choose option 4 to arrange for an exchange unit. Any reactions should be reported to the Food and Drug Administration's MedWatch adverse event reporting program at www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm.

-- The Dutch Kettle of Bremen, Ind., is recalling 94 cases of pint-size glass jars of Hickory BBQ Sauce, packed under 35 different brand labels, because the sauce contains undeclared anchovy. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to fish protein run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported, according to the company.

The products were sold in 13 states: Michigan, Indiana, New York, Illinois, Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Utah. For more information, consumers can call the company at 574-546-4033.

-- About 400 digital color printers of the C9600 series, manufactured by Oki Data Corp. in Japan, because the printers have an electrical problem that could result in electrical shock to consumers. No injuries have been reported. The printers were sold at OKI Printing Solutions dealers and Solution Providers nationwide from August 2005 through September 2007. -- About 40,000 home patio sets, imported by Target and manufactured in China, because the set's chairs can collapse when weight is applied to the front ends of the arm rests, posing a fall hazard to consumers. Target has received 35 reports of chairs collapsing, resulting in 18 injuries including bruising to the back, hips, shoulders and arms, and finger lacerations. The recalled patio set includes a table, an umbrella and four chairs. The chairs and the umbrella have a black aluminum frame covered with a beige fabric.
