Letter: Things are different for teachers now

This is in response to Mr. Bruce Parker, who has no qualms about paying taxes for public schools; good for him.

What he loses sight of is when seniors taxes were subsidizing his education, the teachers were not in unions and their pensions did not cost us an arm and a leg.

Now we not only pay them a very good wage, but we are also responsible for their cushy retirement, something we had to take care of for ourselves.

When it comes to their retirements, they don't have to worry about who's going to pay for those trips to Europe. That's for us taxpayers to do it for them. Who in the private sector on Social Security gets 85% of their well-paid salaries? How many Social Security recipients get 3% compounded raises every single year?

The public unions keep asking for more and more, but what are they willing to give up in the name of fiscal responsibility?

Zilch.

Maybe some of us would like to take those high taxes we have to pay and take our own trip to Europe.
