Mississippi River bridge to close for inspection

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Motorists needing to cross the Mississippi River at Louisiana, Missouri, will need to consider alternative routes during some days next month.

The Quincy (Illinois) Herald-Whig reports that the Champ Clark Bridge at the northeast Missouri town will be closed for annual bridge inspections from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays from June 11 through June 22. The dates could change if weather interferes with the inspections.

Work is underway on a new bridge to replace the narrow Champ Clark bridge that carries U.S. 54 traffic over the river. The new bridge is due to open in the fall of 2019.

Louisiana is about 90 miles north of St. Louis.
