Celta Vigo hires Argentine coach Mohamed on 2-year deal

MADRID (AP) - Spanish club Celta Vigo has hired Argentine coach Antonio Mohamed on a two-year contract.

Mohamed replaces Juan Carlos Unzue, who left after team failed to qualify for a European competition next season.

Celta finished 13th in La Liga this year with 49 points. It announced the hiring of Mohamed on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old Mohamed has a vast coaching experience in Argentina and Mexico with clubs such as Huracan, Independiente, Tijuana, America and Monterrey.

He led Argentine club Independiente to the title of the 2010 Copa Sudamericana, South America's second-most important club competition.

He won titles in Mexico with Tijuana, America and Monterrey, the club he coached for the last three seasons.

As a former midfielder, Mohamed was in the Argentine squad that won the 1991 Copa America.
