Brugge takes league title with draw at closest rival

BRUSSELS (AP) - FC Brugge won its second title in three years when it earned a 1-1 draw at its closest challenger Standard Liege to keep a four-point lead with one game to go.

Brugge was the runaway leader at the end of the regular season, but all points were halved at the start of the playoffs between the top six teams. Standard made a spectacular run from outsider to title challenger but failed to get the vital home win against Brugge.

Brugge goes into the final game with 46 points, four clear of Standard and six of Anderlecht.

With the title, Brugge automatically qualifies for the group stage of next year's UEFA Champions League.

It was Brugge's 15th title.
