Colorado women beat Utah 66-56 in Pac-12 opener
SEATTLE (AP) - Kennedy Leonard had 15 points, eight rebounds, four assists and five steals and Colorado beat Utah 66-56 on Thursday to open play in the Pac-12 Conference Tournament.
Leonard's steal and coast-to-coast basket gave Colorado its largest lead of the game at 62-41 midway through the fourth quarter. Colorado scored 25 points off 19 turnovers and outscored Utah in the paint 38-18.
Annika Jank added 12 points and eight rebounds for eighth-seeded Colorado (15-15), which plays top-seeded and sixth-ranked Oregon in the quarterfinals on Friday. Quinessa Caylao-Do chipped in 11, Zoe Correal 10 and Alexis Robinson was the only Colorado starter in single digits with seven.
Colorado's second-year coach JR Payne won her first Pac-12 post-season game.
Tanaeya BoClair paced ninth-seeded Utah (17-13) with 12 points. Megan Huff, averaging a team-high 14.5 points, was held to nine points on 2-of-7 shooting.
The Buffs held the Utes to just 3-of-14 shooting in the second quarter to take a 28-21 lead.
