Chicago woman charged in lingerie-store theft
WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A 25-year-old Chicago woman has been arrested for allegedly helping to steal more than $2,300-worth of merchandise from a popular women's lingerie store.
A Thursday statement from the DuPage County state's attorney office says Latasha Garrett and several accomplices entered the Victoria's Secret in the suburb of Bloomingdale intending to steal the items. Garrett was pulled over by police Wednesday evening as she drove away around 30 minutes after exiting the store.
State's Attorney Robert Berlin says in the statement that shoplifting costs business billions of dollars a year.
Garrett was charged with one count of burglary. A judge released her on a $30,000 recognizance bond at a Thursday morning hearing. Her arraignment is scheduled for April 16. Thursday's statement didn't include the name of Garrett's lawyer.
