Fed Cup: Kvitova v Golubic opens for Czechs v Swiss

PRAGUE (AP) - Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova will face Viktorija Golubic in the opening singles when the Czech Republic plays Switzerland in the first round of the Fed Cup World Group on Saturday.

Kvitova returns to Fed Cup for the first time since recovering from injuries in a knife attack at her home in December 2016. She won in St. Petersburg, Russia, this month, beating two top-10 players.

Barbora Strycova will play for the Czechs in the second singles against Belinda Bencic on an indoor hard-court in Prague.

Czech No. 1 Karolina Pliskova was overlooked for the opening singles because she's sick.

In the reverse singles on Sunday, Kvitova is scheduled to play Bencic, and Strycova will face Golubic.

In the doubles closer, the Czech duo of Lucie Safarova and Pliskova, if she recovers, will play Timea Bacsinszky and Jil Teichmann.
