Will you vote for your current legislative leader? What is your position on term limits in general and for legislative leaders specifically?Need to elect representatives that are serving their constituents and not enriching themselves. No, I will not vote for our current leader. We need to rotate leadership. I am a strong proponent of term limits. I have term limited my self out of previous positions I have held. 8 years governor, 8 years Representative, and 12 years SenatorOn budgeting, what should be done to ensure that the state does not again go through a period of time without a budget in place? What will you do as a legislator to help ensure that the spending priorities you espouse during your campaign are reflected in the budget?We need to have a balanced budget. We can not spend more than we bring in.We need to elect representatives that can solve problems and not continually put them off until tomorrow. I will use logic and common sense to convince my colleagues that fiscal responsibility will ensure we as a state can provide core services to those that really need them in to the future.Should the legislature approve ballot initiatives either for a constitutional amendment on legislative redistricting or one on term limits? If so, how would you recommend the issues be structure? If not, why not?It would be refreshing if the legislature passed laws on pure geographic redistricting and term limits. Since it has not happened I would support a voter ballot initiative and constitutional amendments for both.What approach do you support in fixing public employee pension systems?All new and recent employees in 401 K plans. Increase age when eligible except with police and fire. Change the cost of living yearly increase to CPI. Intend to make good on promises made unless money runs out and state becomes insolvent financially. Taxpayers need to be treated fairly and not driven out of the state by the costs of unfunded and unrealistic pension promises.To what extent do you support or oppose legalization of marijuana for recreational use?As a physician I have seen the damage illicit drug use has caused. Marijuana is a gate way drug. It also is not healthy to smoke. I am opposed to legalization of marijuana for recreational use.What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office?I will lower property taxes. We pay the highest property taxes in the U.S. I have lowered property taxes in local government. I will repeal the income tax hike. Families are struggling to make ends meet. My opponent just raised income taxes on them by 32%. I will support core services for those truly in need. This means rooting out corruption and wasteful spending.Please name one current leader who most inspires you.Inspirational leaders that come to mind have passed. Some current leaders have some good points but they are not inspirational.What is the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?No matter where you start there is no limit to where you can go.If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?Get married earlier in life and have a bigger family.What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?Biology. It helped me understand how our bodies work so I can fix abnormalities and better bring comfort to others.If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?Work hard and never let anyone tell you it can't be done.
