Police warn residents of thieves posing as city workers

LOVES PARK, Ill. (AP) - Police in the northern Illinois community of Loves Park are warning residents to be careful who they let into their houses after two men got into a home by posing as water department workers and apparently stole jewelry.

WREX-Rockford reports that two men - one of whom was wearing a jacket and yellow vest with reflective stripes - knocked on a resident's door Friday and identified themselves as city water department employees. After the resident let them in, the men turned on faucets, told the resident the water was not good, and left in a black car.

The resident later noticed the missing jewelry and called police.

Police are reminding residents that water department employees are required to wear a uniform, carry identification and drive marked city vehicles.
