Ex-Nebraska star Barrett Ruud returning to coach linebackers

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Former Nebraska linebacker Barrett Ruud is returning to the Cornhuskers to coach inside linebackers.

Ruud was hired as part of new coach Scott Frost's staff in early December. He was elevated to assistant coach on Tuesday, the first day that Football Bowl Subdivision programs could add a 10th full-time assistant coach.

Ruud was a three-time All-Big 12 selection during his three seasons with Nebraska from 2001-04, becoming the school's all-time leading tackler. He played eight seasons in the NFL for four teams.

Ruud was on Frost's staff at UCF the past two seasons as a defensive quality control administrator.
