Bond denied teen charged in death of LaHarpe woman

CARTHAGE, Ill. (AP) - First-degree murder charges have been filed against a western Illinois teenager in the death of a 19-year-old LaHarpe woman.

Hancock County State's Attorney Jason Pohren is asking the court to try the 17-year-old as an adult for the death of Madison Finch. Judge David Vancil Jr. on Tuesday scheduled a hearing on the motion for Jan. 23.

The Quincy Herald-Whig reports Vancil denied bond for the suspect who has pleaded not guilty, and appointed Public Defender Kam Miller as his attorney.

The teen was arrested by Illinois State Police and Hancock County sheriff's deputies after responding to a shooting Monday at a home in LaHarpe.

The suspect was initially held in the Adams County Juvenile Detention Center, but Vancil approved having him moved to the Hancock County Jail on Tuesday. He is to be segregated from the adult population.
