Indianapolis civic leader Lacy dies during Africa trip
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Prominent Indianapolis businessman and philanthropist Andre Lacy has died in motorcycle crash while on a trip to Africa.
Lacy was 78 and the chairman of his family's holding company LDI Ltd. Company vice president Emily Krueger tells The Indianapolis Star that Lacy died Thursday while on a private tour in Botswana.
Lacy had been chairman of the Indiana State Fair Commission since 2009, during which time he led its response to the fairgrounds concert stage rigging collapse that killed seven people and injured dozens more in 2011.
Butler University named its business school for him in 2016 after he donated $25 million. He also served on several nonprofit boards.
Lacy was a motorcycle enthusiast and said he spent the summer of 2015 riding from Moscow to Hong Kong.
