Longtime Raleigh sports columnist Tudor dies at 70

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Caulton Tudor, a three-time North Carolina sportswriter of the year who chronicled sports in the state for more than four decades, has died.

Rick Tudor said his brother died Wednesday. Caulton Tudor was 70, and no cause of death was given.

Tudor was a native of Angier who joined the staff of The Raleigh Times in 1970 and spent more than 20 years as the lead columnist for The News & Observer of Raleigh before retiring in 2013. He later wrote for Raleigh television station WRAL-TV's website.

Tudor covered 35 Atlantic Coast Conference basketball tournaments and 24 Final Fours. He was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in the spring.

ACC Commissioner John Swofford called Tudor "a prominent and important part of the North Carolina and ACC sports scene."
