CTA marks 70th anniversary running Chicago's trains, buses

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Transit Authority is throwing a party to mark its 70th anniversary as the owner and operator of the city's bus and "L'' train service.
The agency is inviting customers and transit fans to a celebration in Daley Plaza on Sunday. The festivities will include vintage bus and train rides, live music performed on CTA subway platforms and face-painting. There also will be an appearance by train announcer Lee Crooks, a recognizable voice to CTA passengers.
CTA began operating Chicago's iconic train system and city buses and streetcars on Oct. 1, 1947.
CTA also is selling commemorative paper CTA tickets to mark the anniversary. People who attend Sunday's free event also have a chance to win prizes and CTA gifts.
