Chicago man gets 12 years in prison for theft from seniors

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A 31-year-old Chicago man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for stealing from residents of a suburban senior living facility where he once worked.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin says Eugene Dorsey of Chicago pleaded guilty to 11 counts of residential burglary.

Dorsey was a nurse's assistant in the assisted living area of Park Place senior living facility in Elmhurst.

Berlin says on several occasions in November 2015 Dorsey stole items including rings, necklaces and bracelets from residents in the facility's independent living wing. Dorsey then pawned the items.

Berlin says the stolen items were worth thousands of dollars and many held "significant sentimental value" for victims. He calls the crime "particularly appalling" because all of the victims were more than 80 years old and trusted Dorsey.
