Ex-sheriff's deputy sentenced in sexual assault case

HIGHLAND, Ind. (AP) - A former sheriff's deputy has been sentenced in connection with an attack on a woman in his northwestern Indiana home.

The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports Friday that a judge ordered 41-year-old Jon Breitweiser to spend two years in Lake County Community Corrections and three years on probation.

A woman told authorities that she was punched in the face and beaten with a stun gun during a 2015 sexual assault at Breitweiser's home before she was able to flee.

Breitweiser pleaded guilty in June to battery resulting in serious bodily injury. Rape, criminal confinement and strangulation charges were dismissed.

He had spent 10 years in law enforcement before leaving the Lake County sheriff's office in 2014.
