Autopsy: Ex-cop died of complications from 1988 shooting

CHICAGO (AP) - An autopsy has determined a former Chicago police officer left with brain damage after a shooting 29 years ago died from the injury.

The Cook County medical examiner's office said Thursday 66-year-old Bernard Domagala died Tuesday of complications from a bullet wound to his head. His death was ruled a homicide.

In July 1988, the 37-year-old Domagala was shot in the forehead by a former Chicago police officer as he and other officers surrounded a home. Tommie Lee Hudson had barricaded himself inside after shooting a mover trying to evict him.

Police fired tear gas into the home before Hudson, surrendered after an eight-hour standoff.

Hudson was charged with attempted murder and other charges. A psychiatrist later found Hudson to be mentally ill. He was committed to a mental health facility. He died in 1994.
