Danville starting to put signs directing to downtown area

DANVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Danville officials have started putting up signs around the eastern Illinois city showing ways to the downtown district and other areas.

The Commercial-News reports that the first signs have gone up and others are to follow in the project's first phase. Danville City Council members approved nearly $58,000 in January 2016 to pay for a signage study. City officials and the Danville Area Convention and Visitors' Bureau have supported a consistent and organized sign project.

The city's sign plan includes addressing bicycle, vehicle and pedestrian traffic downtown, near the Danville Area Community College and the veterans' health care campus.

The first sign that went up in August directs traffic to the downtown district, Palmer Area and visitor information and the city's retail district.
