Keep it on? Strip clubs oppose proposal to close at midnight
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Strip club owners in Fort Wayne are upset over a proposal to close their doors at midnight.
City Councilman Russ Jehl says police are responding to too many calls at the clubs. But dozens of people who oppose his proposal appeared at a council meeting Tuesday night, some holding signs.
The owner of Shangri-La West, Dino Zurzolo, says 80 percent of business occurs after midnight. He says dancers and other employees would be adversely affected.
A stripper tells WANE-TV that she makes $200 to $300 between midnight and 3 a.m.
Off-duty Fort Wayne officers are no longer allowed to work security at the clubs. Zurzolo says that's why there have been more calls to police.
The council will discuss the issue on Sept. 5.
