Closed Fort Wayne high school being sold to quarry company

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - Fort Wayne's former Elmhurst High School is being sold to the company that owns a limestone quarry bordering the longtime school property.
The Fort Wayne Community Schools board voted unanimously Monday night to approve the $600,000 sale to Hanson Aggregates Midwest. The deal includes the Elmhurst site along with 12 acres of adjacent farmland owned by the school district.
School board attorney David Amen says the sale could be finalized within a week. The company hasn't said what it plans for the property on the city's southwest side.
The Elmhurst building dates back to 1929 and had about 900 students when it was closed in 2010 in a budget-cutting move.
