Thomas, Jones have double-doubles as Sun beat Wings 96-88

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) - Alyssa Thomas had 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds and Jonquel Jones added 19 points, 16 boards and five blocked shots to help the Connecticut Sun beat the Dallas Wings 96-88 on Saturday night.

Courtney Williams also scored 19 points, Shekinna Stricklen had 15 and Alex Bentley 12 for Connecticut (17-9), which will be headed to the playoffs for the first time since 2012 after the Atlanta Dream lost to the San Antonio Stars later on Saturday. The Sun have won five in a row overall and eight straight at home.

Glory Johnson hit two free throws that gave Dallas a one-point lead, its first since midway through the first quarter, with 5:31 to play but Williams answered with a jumper. Thomas took her own steal coast-to-coast for a layup and then hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 84-80 about one minute later and the Sun led the rest of the way.

Allisha Gray led Dallas (13-16) with a career-high 21 points. Glory Johnson had 20 points and 13 rebounds and Skylar Diggins-Smith added 19 points. The Wings have lost six consecutive road games.

Connecticut came in leading the WNBA is 3-point field goal percentage (38.4) but hit just 4 of 19 (21.1 percent) on Saturday. The Sun outrebounded Dallas 41-28, including 12-5 on the offensive glass.
