Syracuse tabs 2 former Bowling Green stars as assistants

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Syracuse coach Dino Babers has tabbed two of his former stars at Bowling Green as Orange assistants.

Trent Greene will serve as a defensive graduate assistant, while Matt Johnson will work as the team's offensive quality control assistant.

A team captain and two-time All-MAC selection at linebacker, Greene notched 248 career tackles in three seasons and was a nominee last year for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the best player in college football who began his career as a walk-on.

Johnson played in 37 games at Bowling Green over four seasons and holds the school record with 73 career touchdown passes. He was named the 2015 MAC offensive player of the year and also won the Sammy Baugh Award, given each season to the top passer in the country.
