Man gets 65 years for fatal shooting outside restaurant

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A man convicted in a fatal shooting outside a Fort Wayne restaurant has been sentenced to 65 years in prison.

Twenty-nine-year-old Andrew Cassaday was sentenced Friday in the killing of 28-year-old Jeffrey Lute. A jury had convicted him of murder in April.

The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/2rujvqR ) Cassaday and several other members of a motorcycle club had gone to a restaurant last August to confront Lute, who was a former member of their club.

Witnesses testified that Lute shot one of the club members in the leg and ran around the building to flee. Prosecutors say Cassaday got a gun from his car and fatally shot Lute when he emerged from around the building.

Prosecutors called it an ambush, but Cassaday said during his trial he shot Lute in self-defense.
