Man City sign Bernardo Silva from French champ Monaco

MANCHESTER, England (AP) - Manchester City boosted its attacking options by signing Monaco playmaker Bernardo Silva on Friday.

The length of the deal and the fee were not disclosed.

Silva, a 22-year-old Portugal international, official moves over on July 1.

Silva helped Monaco become French champion this season, as well as reaching the semifinals of the Champions League.

City manager Pep Guardiola moved swiftly to sign Silva after failing to win a trophy in his first season at the club.

City, the English Premier League champion in 2012 and 2014, finished third this season. In the Champions League, City reached the last 16 before losing to Silva's Monaco on away goals in the last 16.

Guardiola's overhaul of City began on Thursday when he released defenders Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy, winger Jesus Navas, and goalkeeper Willy Caballero. Long-serving defender Pablo Zabaleta joined West Ham United on Friday.
