Vernon Hills deputy chief leaving for new job

Vernon Hills police Deputy Chief Jon Petrillo, a 24-year member of the department, has left to become the chief of administration for the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Petrillo became a deputy chief in 2008 in charge of the operations and support services sections. He has been heavily involved in programs to assist military veterans, including Blue Line for the Front Line (care packages sent to troops stationed overseas) and Operation Stand Down, in which hundreds of coats have been collected and donated to the Midwest Veteran's Closet in North Chicago. Petrillo starts his new job Monday replacing John Byrne, who retired.
