Girls soccer: Wahlberg scores twice in St. Charles North's victory

The St. Charles North girls soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 7 games with a 4-1 victory over Lyons Township Thursday night in the second round of the PepsiCo Showdown.

Gia Wahlberg led the North Stars (6-0-1) with 2 goals and 1 assist while Hailey Rydberg and Jordan Karom bookended North's scoring. Madison Kauffman had 2 assists, Claudia Najera dished 1 and goalkeeper Sami Sample registered another shutout with 6 saves.

West Aurora 7, Jones Prep 0: The Blackhawks' win streak reached 11 as freshman Kiara McPhearson's hat trick was a stat sheet stuffer in a second round PepsiCo win. Katharine Stephens scored 2 goals for West Aurora (11-1) while Jessica Ortiz and Riley O'Brien also had goals.

CL South 3, Plainfield North 0: The Gators also stayed unbeaten (6-0-1) while getting a second round win in the PepsiCo tournament. Taylor Bittenbender, Abigail Wiegand and Jess Schoenfeldt each booted goals while Jenna Ross and Brooke Dunteman added assists. Goalie Annika Sevcik recorded her fourth shutout with 9 saves.

Bartlett 2, Downers Grove South 0: Jessica Mirsky and Paige Bednarke's second half goals helped the Hawks (5-5-1) end a 4-game slide in nonconference action. Alyssa Modugno had 1 assist and both Teagan Noesen and Nykia Wetterman split duties in net to grab a shutout.

ACC 1, Rosary 0: A first half unassisted goal for Gina Cortino was all the Chargers (4-1) needed in a nonconference win over the Royals. Keeper Alex Montalbano turned in her fourth shutout of the year with 11 saves.

Dundee-Crown 6, Resurrection 1: The Chargers (5-4) mounted a PepsiCo win in a dominant fashion thanks to Katelyn Skibinski's hat trick. Claire Pape, Anna Kieltyka and Braylin Mensik also scored for D-C, who saw Taylor Coffman, Autumn Seaton and Irene Martin grab assists.

Burlington Central 5, Richmond-Burton 0: In a Kishwaukee River win, the Rockets (8-1-1, 4-0) cruised behind Anna McMahon and Megan Majewski. McMahon scored twice while Majewski had 2 assists. Jordan King had 1 goal and 1 assist and both Kyrsten Pellikan and Zoey Kollhoff scored goals. Madelyn Menke had 1 assist and keeper Erin Rafferty's 1 save earned a shutout.

Cary-Grove 4, McHenry 1: Teagan Jones dominated play with a hat trick for the Trojans (4-2, 1-1) in a Fox Valley Conference win over the Warriors. Izzy Robinson also scored for C-G, who saw Alex Airhart, Kelly Stayart and Megan Harbeck collect assists.

Streamwood 4, Willowbrook 2: Alondra Blanco had 1 goal and 2 assists to lead the Sabres (2-6) to a nonconference win. Melanie Ramirez, Kaila Ford and Lesly Jimenez also found the net while Michaela Gundersen had 2 assists. Goalie Yasmine Resendiz made 9 saves.

Harvest Christian 6, Keith Country Day 1: The Lions won a Northeastern Athletic match with Emily Halter leading the way with 2 goals. Sonja Jenkins and Anastasia Hermiz had 1 goal and 1 assist while Holley Colclasure and Taylor Keeran also scored goals. Hannah Caldwell and Becca Gafrick notched 2 assists and keeper Isa Garcia recorded 3 saves in net.

Plainfield Central 4, Elgin 3: In PepsiCo action, a 3-goal tie was settled in penalty kicks, where the Maroons fell short 3-1. In regulation, Brittany Dazzo mustered 1 goal and 2 assists while Hayly Munoz had 1 goal and 1 assist. Kylie Graves also scored for Elgin (3-3-2).
