Rosemont forms Sister City partnership with Mexican town

Rosemont is establishing its first Sister City partnership with Ecuandureo, a municipality in Mexico that sits between Guadalajara and Mexico City.

It's fitting because several Rosemont residents, particularly those who live in apartments north of the Allstate Arena, hail from the area and still have family there, officials said.

State Sen. Martin Sandoval, whose wife is from Ecuandureo and married her there, is behind the effort to establish a cultural partnership between the two towns. Meeting with Rosemont officials after Wednesday's village board meeting, Sandoval said it's possible a delegation from Rosemont could visit the municipality, which is in the Mexican state of Michoacán.

Omar Camarillo, program director with the Rosemont Park District, described it as a farming area where generations upon generations have known each other. He was there four years ago to visit family.

"It's more laid back," he said. "It gets you away from the hustle and bustle."
