South Elgin grad Allen flourishing at Stevens Point

South Elgin graduate Paige Allen is having another fine season on the collegiate softball diamond.

Through Wednesday, Allen was hitting .385 for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point softball team.

In 24 games (all starts), Allen has 30 hits in 78 at-bats with 19 runs scored. Among those 30 hits are 11 doubles, 1 triple, 6 homers and 20 RBI. Allen leads Stevens Point in both home runs and RBI. She has a .782 slugging percentage and a .422 on-base percentage. In the field, Allen has made no errors in 26 attempts in the outfield for a Stevens-Point team that was 8-16 through Wednesday.

Allen belted 2 home runs in the second game of a recent doubleheader against UW-River Falls.

Allen already has equaled her home run total from a year ago and has 13 collegiate home runs. Her 11 doubles are more than she had in her first 2 years at Stevens Point combined (9).

Grabner nabs award: Huntley graduate Jake Grabner is a freshman on the Loras College men's golf team. Grabner recently was named one of two Champions of the Week presented by Champps Americana, as announced by the Loras athletic communications office.

In his first action of the spring, Grabner took second at the Loras annual Duhawk Spring Invitational hosted at Thunder Hills Country Club. On the first day of action, Grabner shot 1-over 72 and followed that up with a 2-over 73 on the final day. He finished the competition 3-over 145 in helping Loras to a third-place finish.

In a midweek competition, Grabner added a third-place finish at the Clarke Spring Invite, shooting a 6-over 77. Loras won that event.

Wiss at Air Force: Burlington Central product Drew Wiss is a sophomore outfielder on the Air Force Academy baseball team. After hitting .231 in limited action as a freshman, Wiss has broken out this season. Through Wednesday, he was third on the team in hitting with a .383 average. In 30 games (28 starts), Wiss has 36 hits in 94 at-bats with 24 runs scored. He has 8 doubles, 1 triple and 18 RBI to go with a .489 slugging percentage. He also has a .473 on-base percentage thanks to 13 walks and 3 hit by pitch. Wiss has 4 stolen bases and has made no errors in the outfield in 53 total chances. Air Force was 14-17 overall and 7-6 in conference play through Wednesday.

Collins at MSOE: Batavia graduate Pat Collins is a junior goalie on the Milwaukee School of Engineering men's lacrosse team. Collins was 5-5 in goal through midweek with a 7.30 goals-against average. He has 72 saves (56.7 save percentage) and has 17 ground balls in 452:07 minutes of action.

Efflandt at Yale: Cary-Grove product Lindsay Efflandt now is a senior pitcher on the Yale University softball team. Through midweek, Efflandt had pitched in 19 games (7 starts) and had 3 wins to go with a 4.81 ERA. In 55 ⅓ innings, she had 32 strikeouts (4.0 Ks per 7 innings). Yale was 9-21 and 4-4 in conference through Wednesday.

Nutof at Michigan: South Elgin alum Ryan Nutof has been a workhorse on the mound this season for the University of Michigan baseball team. Nutof, through Wednesday has started 8 games on the hill for the Wolverines and sported a 3-1 record with a 5.02 ERA. He is tied for the team lead in innings pitched with 43 and has 41 strikeouts.

Helping the Wolverines on the mound is nothing new for Nutof. As a freshman, he logged 80 innings and started 14 games, going 5-3 with a 3.71 ERA. Last year he appeared in 21 games (11 starts) and went 6-3 with a 3.67 ERA and logged 54 innings.

Michigan was 26-7 and 13-2 in the Big Ten Conference through midweek.

Hayton at Aurora: West Aurora graduate Kaylee Hayton is a sophomore pitcher for Aurora University's softball team. In relief April 2 against Concordia Chicago, she helped the Spartans rally from an 8-0 deficit and record a 9-8 victory at Aurora. She has pitched in 4 games and has 17 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. Aurora was 19-5 through April 11. In 2015 at North Central College in Naperville, she appeared in 7 games as a pitcher, starting six. She finished with a 6-1 record and a 2.53 ERA, while recording 11 strikeouts over 27.2 innings. She tied for second on the team in wins (6) that season at North Central.

Molenhouse at St. Norbert: Rosary graduate Emma Molenhouse is a freshman pitcher on the St. Norbert College softball team. Through midweek, Molenhouse was 6-3 with a 2.51 ERA in 12 games. She has started 9 games and has completed six of them with 4 shutouts and has 1 save to her credit. In 58⅔ innings, Molenhouse has struck out 33. St. Norbert was 11-9 overall and 9-1 in Midwest Conference play through Wednesday.
