Softball: Bengston's blast lifts Grant past Lakes

Erin Bengston's 3-run homer in the bottom of the sixth rallied Grant's softball team past Lakes 8-6 in Northern Lake County Conference action Tuesday.

Bengston (3-for-4) also doubled and singled and finished with 5 RBI, as the Bulldogs improved to 10-2 and 1-2 in the NLCC. Becca Wold was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, while Calista Warmowski and Megan Mitchell (double) each finished 2-for-4.

Lakes' Rachel Becker finished 3-for-4 with a double. The Eagles also got 2 hits apiece from Molly Dietz, Kayla Foote (double) and Camryn Jones (double). Jen Reed had a double.

Round Lake 8, Grayslake North 6: The Panthers scored 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth to stun the Knights in the Northern Lake County game.

Grace Brown (2-for-4, solo homer), Faith Standerski (double, 2 RBI), Katie Moats (2-for-4, double, RBI) and Becca Sosa (1-for-3, RBI) led Grayslake North.

Sydney Verastegui finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI for Round Lake, and Emily Etherington was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Antioch 7, Grayslake Central 5: The host Sequoits rallied from a 4-0 deficit against Rams ace Reagen Radke to win the Northern Lake County game.

Jill Foote's 3-run double highlighted Antioch's 5-run fourth inning. Megan Lawrence was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and 3 stolen bases for the Sequoits (7-1, 2-0). Foote and Annie Wagner both finished 2-for-4, while Ashley Stephens was 2-for-3 with a double. Piper Foote also doubled for Antioch Stephanie Bonaguidi pitched 4⅔ innings for the win, and Hannah Cook finished up for the save.

Radke homered twice for Grayslake Central (6-3, 2-1), which got doubles from Morgan Smigielski and Breanna Albert.

Libertyville 13, Waukegan 0: Sarah Hoyer's grand slam highlighted the Wildcats' win in North Suburban action.

Hannah Heraty (2 RBI) homered in her only at-bat. Libertyville (8-2) also got offensive contributions from Kenzie Rother (2-for-3), Lyndsey Lyon (2-for-3, double), Franny Quenan (1-for-2, double), Emily Hilldale (2-for-3) and Maggie Evers (1-for-1, double, 2 RBI).

Quenan pitched 4 innings for the win, striking out six, walking one and allowing 2 hits.
