Baseball: Mundelein stays perfect; Carmel gets doubleheader sweep

Mundelein's baseball team improved to 11-0 as Drew Breitenreiter went 3-for-4 and Andrew Beres went 2-for-4 in a 6-0 victory over Rockton Hononegah on Saturday.

Winning pitcher Steven Sanchez rolled up 8 strikeouts and didn't allow a hit over 4 innings.

Mundelein had 11 hits on the day.

Carmel sweeps: Carmel swept a double-header with Rockford East, 26-2, 10-4.

Winning pitcher Ben Wiegman led the way in the first game. He also went 5-for-5 with a home run and 6 RBI.

Jimmy Tarzan and Aidan Zawaski added 2 hits apiece.

In the second game, Eddie Pietschmann and Drew Wiegman each had 2 hits, including home runs. Austin Ehren also added 2 hits.

Grant 13, Lakeview 3: Ben Kusiak and Jimmy Friel each had 2 hits, including a double, to lead Grant, which improves to 5-5.

Winning pitcher Sam Fernandez had 6 strikeouts over five innings.

Richmond Burton 5 Vernon Hills 1: Richmond scored three times in the top of the first and Vernon Hills couldn't catch up.

Vernon Hills scored its only run in the sixth inning. Drew Winegardner reached on an error and stole second base. Nick Marras moved him to third and Kyle Fasbinder plated Winegardner with a ground out to second base.

Vernon Hills dropped to 4-7-1 on the season.

Lake Zurich 3, Crossroads Christian 2: Tyler Snep had 2 hits and pitcher Ben Cornelius had 9 strikeouts over five innings to lead Lake Zurich.

Palatine 8, Antioch 1: Junior Evan Daly went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in 3 runs to help the visiting Pirates pick up a nonconference victory.

Daly, J.T. Streepy and Brent Penrose each doubled for Palatine, which drew 8 walks.

Winning pitcher John Weber (5⅓ IP, 2 hits) and Jason Rivera (1⅔, 0 hits) were both solid on the mound for the Pirates (4-6).

Warren 5, Grayslake North 3 (8): Matt Temaner, Jake Nitch, Ricky Lee and Robert Archbold each had 2 hits for Warren. Lukas Schmitt added a home run.

Riley Kocen was the winning pitcher while Matt Langevin got the save.
