Baseball: Combined 1-hitter as Prospect blanks Maine West

Prospect baseball coach Ross Giusti used three pitchers on Friday to shut out visiting Maine West 3-0 in nonconference play in Mt. Prospect.

Ben Courtney (2 innings), Mack Malczewski (3 innings) and Frankie Mack (2 innings) combined for a 1-hitter for the Knights, who were led at the plate by Nick DeCapri's 3-for-3 performance.

Ryan Roggeman (1-for-2) belted a home run while Ryan Howe and Richie Baczek had the other RBI for Prospect (2-5).

Other top hitters for the hosts were Grant Whitebloom (1-for-2, double, 1 run) and John Morgan (1-for-2). Teammate Nick Ergostolo also score a run.

Prospect struck out eight batters - led by Courtney (4), Mack (3) and Malczewski (1).

Jacob Cabral had the lone hit for Maine West (2-5).

Buffalo Grove 7, New Trier 2: The Bison remain unbeaten at 5-0-1 after picking up a win over host New Trier in nonconference play.

Buffalo Grove scored 3 runs in both the fourth and seventh innings.

In the fourth, John Carpinelli had the big hit, a single which plated 3 runs.

In the seventh, Mike Gran had a single as New Trier helped BG's cause by committing an error and allowing a passed ball.

Starter Jack Vaselaney got the win after allowing 2 unearned runs over 4 innings. T.J. Constertina tossed 2 innings of 1-hit relief with 4 strikeouts to earn a save.

Carpinelli, Gran and Rio Komatani finished with 2 hits apiece for the Bison.

Schaumburg 7, West Chicago 0: Justin Schoefemacker tossed 4 hitless innings and struck out six, while three more Saxons pitchers - Kolby Miller, Jake Golliher and Josiah Walton - allowed 7 hits but worked out of trouble to keep West Chicago scoreless in nonconference play.

Tommy Larsen and Jack Lancaster had 3 hits apiece, and Nick Calip and Tyler Fredrickson had 2 each for the Saxons (5-4).

Calip and Larsen both doubled, while Lancaster drove in 3 runs and Fredrickson 2.

West Chicago left 11 runners on base.

Elk Grove 5, Rockford Auburn 0: Joe Lopez was dominant on the mound for the host Grens, striking out eight with a walk and allowing 2 singles and a double in a complete-game shutout.

Lopez threw 53 of his 85 pitches for strikes, and delivered first-pitch strikes to 14 of the 24 batters he faced.

Six of the 7 hits for Elk Grove (4-3) were doubles. Nick Hofmann had 2, and AJ Navarro, Jakub Sokol, Ryne Singsank and Austin Brown had 1 each.

Rolling Meadows 3, Glenbard East 1: Starter Nate Pardini and reliever Ryan Lane combined to limit the visiting Rams to 3 hits as the Mustangs picked up their first victory in a nonconference matchup.

Pardini allowed an unearned run while striking out seven and walking one in 4 innings, and Lane finished up with 2 scoreless innings to get the save.

Justin Thompson had a double and Lane drove in a run as Rolling Meadows (1-6) made the most of its 5 hits.

Hersey 9, De La Salle 6: Tyler Haffey and Alberto Garcia both doubled and drove in 3 runs to power the host Huskies (2-3-1) in nonconference play.

Starter Mark Losacco allowed 3 earned runs in 5 innings to get the win.

Christian Rodriguez also had a double for Hersey.

St. Viator 11, Montini 7: Cole Kmet hit a 2-run homer in the first inning, setting the tone for a 15-hit effort by the visiting Lions (4-4).

Jack Finnegan also homered, and Hunter Johnson, Casey Kmet, Cole Kmet and Jack Mahoney each had multiple hits. Mahoney, Johnson, Finnegan, and Cole Kmet each finished with 2 RBI.

Cole Kmet started and earned the victory. He allowed 1 earned run over 4 innings, striking out five and walking six.

His homer in the second inning was his fourth this spring.

Jake Karczewski doubled twice and drove in 3 runs for Montini.

Plainfield North 4, Conant 2 (8 inn.): The host Cougars grabbed a 2-1 lead after scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning before Plainfield North tied it in the seventh and won it in the eighth.

Dave Sapyta and Colin Broeker had the only 2 hits for Conant (2-6).

Starter Matt Majer pitched 3 scoreless innnings for Conant, and reliever Cody Gale allowed 1 run in 2 innings.

Lake Zurich 5, Palatine 3: J.T. Streepy tripled and drove in 2 runs as the host Pirates tied it with a 3-run fifth inning, but the Bears answered with 2 of their own in the sixth and held on to earn a nonconference win.

Jack Hopper and John Weber had 2 hits apiece for Palatine (3-6).

Sophomore Tyler Snep went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI for Lake Zurich.

Fremd 12, Glenbrook North 2 (6 inn.): Will McCabe and Alec Honickel drove in 3 runs apiece as the Vikings produced an 8-run fifth inning and a 4-run sixth to end the nonconference road game an inning early.

Victor Fujiu tossed 4 scoreless innings to get the win for Fremd (3-4). He allowed 3 hits and struck out four.

Tommy Josten, Jordan Albano, Eric Bennes and Honickel each had 2 hits for the Vikes.

Jacobs 3, Hoffman Estates 0: Pitchers Cory Dennison, Justin Lavrisa, Austin Asplen and Dylan Cummings (save) combined to shut out the Hawks on 3 hits in nonconference play. Mike Addante drove in 2 runs with groundouts and Ian Oreskovich and Liam Oreskovich each doubled to lead Jacobs (7-1).
