Baseball: Geneva, Cary-Grove win in opposite fashion
Sean Sinisko tossed three shutout innings and got plenty of support from his offense in Geneva's 14-1 win over Streamwood in an Upstate Eight River matchup Thursday.
Sinisko struck out four and didn't walk a batter while the Vikings drew eight free passes. Ryan Belloli and Cullen Geary pitched the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
Josh Rose had 2 hits including a double with 2 RBI for Geneva (5-2, 2-0). Conor Cook drove in three runs and Jack Olson and Jack Olson both had 2 RBI. Jason Peruba and Jason Peruba each scored 3 runs; Ian Hanson went 1-for-3 and scored twice.
Michael Pawlikowski drove in the only run for the Sabres (3-4, 0-2).
Cary-Grove 4, Prairie Ridge 3: The Trojans (7-1) scored a pair of runs in the first and second innings and held on for a 1-run win.
Cary-Grove managed just 5 hits - by Ryan Ignoffo, Tyler Pennington, Quinn Priester, Justin Trausch and Zach Willis - against Prairie Ridge's Robbie Masini, who stuck out five in a complete-game effort. Wills doubled while Ignoffo, Pennington and Priester all scored runs.
Matt McCumber had 8 strikeouts in the first 5 innings to earn the win. Tommy Neilsen struck out two and scattered 2 hits and 2 walks to earn the save.
Dundee-Crown 6, Hampshire 5: Connor Ryan's hit in the eighth inning scored Greg Williams from third base to give the Chargers (4-0) the extra-inning victory.
Scott Wojcik (2-for-4, 3 RBI, triple), Erik Hedmark (2-for-4, 2 runs), Ryan Denz (1-for-3, 2 runs) and Ryan (2-for-5, 2 RBI, double) were among the leaders for Dundee-Crown. Brett Buske pitched the final 1 2/3 innings with 2 strikeouts for the win.
Matt Jachec doubled and had 2 hits for Hampshire (4-3-1). Tyler Maglaya drove in two runs.
Barrington 13, St. Charles East 10: After erasing an 8-1 deficit, the Saints led 9-8 until Barrington scored five runs in the sixth for the nonconference win.
The Saints' Niko Klebostis doubled twice and went 3-for-3. Patrick Griffin had 2 hits and 4 RBI. John Dellostritto and Justin Galante also drove in two runs. Joey Sciarrino and John Carroll both had 2 hits.
