Softball: Lyon, Libertyville edge out Warren

Libertyville 11, Warren 9: Lyndsey Lyon homered, singled and drove in 4 runs, and Libertyville's softball team edged visiting Warren 11-9 in its North Suburban Conference opener Thursday.

Winning pitcher Hannah Heraty was 3-for-3 with a double. Besides Lyon (2-for-4), the Wildcats also got 2 hits apiece from Kenzie Rother (2-for-5, RBI, SB), Sam Hilldale (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and Madde Hollinger (2-for-3). Ally Flores contributed an RBI.

Heraty went the distance in the circle, allowing 3 earned runs, striking out five and walking one.

Emily Hudgins was 3-for-5 for Warren, which also got 2-for-4 efforts from Erika Jimenez and Ashlyn Kitter (double). Claire Swedberg doubled and drove in 2 runs for the Blue Devils.

Lake Zurich 11, Waukegan 2: Amanda Guercio homered, doubled and drove in 3 runs, and the Bears cruised in North Suburban action.

Lake Zurich (5-4, 2-0) also got 2 hits each from Mackenzie Brinn (4 RBI) and Elizabeth Chialdikas (double). Jessica Puccinelli had a double and 2 RBI. Julianna Hood pitched the first 4 innings, allowing 2 earned runs and striking out seven to earn the win. Taylor Zelich nothed a 3-inning save, striking out four and givng up only 1 hit.

Mundelein 11, Zion-Benton 6: Meghan Ehemann was 3-for-4 wih 2 doubles, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored, as the visiting Mustangs won their second game in a row.

Peyton Pribyl homered and knocked in 3 runs for Mundelein (2-6, 2-0). Pribyl, Jordyn West (2 runs, RBI), Kaitlyn Griffin (2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Olivia Michalski (double) each had a pair of hits. Breanna Adams went the distance in the circle for the win.

Grayslake Central 10, Round Lake 0: Sophomore Grace Bradley allowed just 3 hits in 5 innings for her first win, as the Rams captured the Northern Lake County game.

Sophomore Elisa Koshy drove in 5 runs, hitting a 3-run home run in the third and 2-run shot in the fourth. Junior Brenna Albert also homered.

Grayslake Central (5-2, 2-0) collected 9 hits. Albert, Koshy and senior Lindsay Brust (double) each had a pair of hits.

Grayslake North sweeps North Chicago: The Knights won 12-0 and 12-3 in Northern Lake County action.

In Game 1, Faith Standerski and Jelly Diaz each finished with 1-for-1 with 2 RBI. Grace Brown, Jenna Pozezinski, Katie Moats, Becca Sosa, Evan Garrett and Quinnlyn Meadowcroft also contributed RBI.

In Game 2, Kylie Conrad, Lauren Olsen, Diaz, Shaina Lesniewicz (double) and Quinnlyn Meadowcroft all finished 1-for-1 with RBI. Ashton Moore also finished 1-for-1.

Lakes 2, Wauconda 0: Kayla Foote pitched a 4-hit shutout, striking out four and not allowing a walk, as the Eagles earned the Northern Lake County win.

Jen Reed and Gerorgia Ohren drove in the game's only runs. Reed and Rachel Becker each had multiple hits.
