Carpentersville burglar going to prison for at least 4 years

A Kane County jury convicted a Carpentersville man earlier this week of residential burglary, the state's attorney's office said Friday.

Juan Arellano, 24, of the 0-99 block of Pine Street, faces a minimum sentence of four years and a maximum of 15 years.

Prosecutors said Arellano and two accomplices entered a home on Carpentersville's south side on May 26, 2016, and took a variety of items, including a handgun, a dozen pairs of collectible shoes, a designer backpack worth approximately $2,200 and jewelry.

One of the accomplices became concerned about the stolen gun and reported the crime to police, authorities said.

The other companion was charged with residential burglary. His case is pending.

Sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. June 9. He remains in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest.
