Five West Aurora students advance to national business competition

Ten West Aurora High School students recently competed in the Business Professional of America State competition.

Five students earned a spot to compete in the national competition in Orlando, Fla., in May. To earn a spot in the national competition, the students needed to finish in the top five in their respective field of competition.

The students competed against Illinois' finest in the areas of workplace skills, business administration, management information systems, digital communication, marketing and communication.

These students will advance to compete in the national competition in Orlando, Florida in May:

• David Lund, third place, PC Servicing and Troubleshooting;

• Tzuriel Hernandez, second place, Advanced Word Processing;

• Sarah Hansen, third place, Digital Publishing;

• Abraham Soto, fourth place, Integrated Office Applications;

• Nathan Hastings, fourth place, Visual Basic/C# Programming.

These students placed in one of the top 10 spots and received a medal:

• Brian Sanchez, sixth place, C++ Programming;

• Nathan Hastings, sixth place, Computer Security.

David Lund also placed second in Information Technology Concepts and received a medal. This field is an open competition, but not a national event.

Other participants were Candelaria Moreno, Tristan Tovar, Aaron Avila and Deviena Pratomo.

Business Professionals of America is a career and technical student organization for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields.

The organization has 45,000 members in more than 1,800 chapters in 25 states and Puerto Rico. It is a co-curricular organization that supports business and information technology educators by offering co-curricular exercises based on national standards.

The mission of Business Professionals of America is to contribute to the preparation of global professionals through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.
