Some write-in candidates across the suburbs already know if they've won or lost, while others may have to wait up to three weeks to find out once results have been certified.

In DuPage and McHenry counties, raw vote totals for write-ins were reported online, but not breakdowns by individual names.

Lake County clerk's office officials say write-in results should be tabulated within the week. Mayoral races in Fox Lake, Lakemoor and Lake Villa listed only one candidate on the ballot in each town, but write-ins did file in those races.

Cook County clerk's office officials said votes for write-ins won't be available until after the canvass, which will begin in about a week, and election authorities have until April 25 to certify results.

It could be weeks until results are known
