Montgomery man charged in Aurora shooting

A 27-year-old Montgomery man has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with a shooting earlier this year on Aurora's far east side, authorities said Thursday.

Thomas Lachance, of the 200 block of Fernwood, was taken into custody without incident by Aurora officers around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at the DuPage County Courthouse in Wheaton where he had a court date on unrelated charges.

Police say Lachance apparently had an ongoing dispute with a 34-year-old Aurora man and a 28-year-old Aurora woman and followed their car around 12:45 p.m. Feb. 28 as they drove east on Montgomery Road. When they arrived at the intersection of Montgomery and Frontenac, Lachance pulled up alongside them in a pickup truck and began shouting.

Police said Lachance then held a handgun outside his window, fired several rounds in the air, and fled.

Nothing was hit and no injuries resulted from the shooting.

Lachance also has been served with a failure to appear arrest warrant issued by the Kendall County Sheriff's Department for unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
