Softball: Barnes hits, pitches Burlington Central to win

Junior Julia Barnes threw a 3-hitter and belted a home run herself Tuesday as the Burlington Central softball team rolled to a 14-1 Kishwaukee River Conference win over Woodstock.

Barnes, who had 2 hits, struck out 7 and walked 1 as the Rockets moved to 2-5 on the season and 1-0 in the KRC.

Also adding to the offense were Kristina Ahlers (2 HRs), Alisyn Catenacci (4 hits) and Abby Sanders (2 hits, 2B).

Dundee-Crown 4, Hononegah 3: The Chargers scored the game-winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning to win this nonconference game. Winning pitcher Sydney Ruggles (7 IP, 6 H, 4 Ks, 3 BBs) had a home run, a double and 3 RBI to lead the offense for D-C (4-2-1) while Deanna Origer (2 hits), Claire Weeks (2B, RBI) and Cassidy Randl (2B) also contributed.

Batavia 11, West Chicago 1: Toni Galas (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Jaelen Lisberg (2 hits, 3B, 2 RBI) and Jena Bendoraitis (2 hits, HR, 5 RBI) led the Batavia offense in this Upstate Eight win. Lisberg picked up the win in the circle, allowing 5 hits with 12 strikeouts and 3 walks.

West Aurora 11, Larkin 1: Gab Drager allowed 1 hit with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk and produced 2 hits and 3 RBI of her own as West Aurora won in the Upstate Eight. Sarah Hansen added 2 hits and an RBI for the Blackhawks (8-2, 1-0) while Faith Pokryfke had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBI.

ACC 4, Glenbard South 3: A 2-run double by Isabell Gonzalez (2 hits, 2B, 3 RBI) in the bottom of the seventh scored Rachel Haley and Val Litrenta as the Chargers (2-3, 1-0) came away with this Metro Suburba win. Bridget Butler added a double for ACC. Danielle Brown was the winner in the circle, allowing 3 hits with 13 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Harlem 11, CL South 2: Brittany Baker had an RBI for Crystal Lake South in this nonconference loss.

Belvidere 9, Hampshire 1: In nonconference play, Gwen Malecke had the only hit for Hampshire (1-3).
