Naperville man charged in beating, stabbing

A 21-year-old Naperville man, Alexander Iwerebon, has been charged with two counts of aggravated battery in connection with the beating and stabbing of an acquaintance on March 30, authorities said.

Iwerebon, of the 1400 block of Swallow Street, is being held on $200,000 bond in DuPage County jail.

Authorities said the victim apparently called Iwerebon and asked for a ride on March 30 and they met around 11:30 p.m. in Naperville.

Sometime during that meeting, authorities said, Iwerebon attacked the man, beating him and then stabbing him multiple times in the back. The victim was treated at an area hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, authorities said.

Naperville police investigated and took Iwerebon into custody.

"This type of brazen attack will not be tolerated in DuPage County and will be met with the full force of the law," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a written statement.

Iwerebon's next court appearance is scheduled for April 24 in front of Judge George Bakalis.
