2 young children die in central Illinois house fire

PANA, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say that two young children have died in a house fire in the central Illinois community of Pana.

The (Decatur) Herald & Review (http://bit.ly/2oOedkk ) reports that firefighters and police officers responded to the blaze about 5:45 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they saw smoke billowing from the house and were told by residents that there were still two children inside.

Intense heat and smoke prevented firefighters and police from getting into the building for a few minutes. When they were able to get inside, they found the bodies of two children - one 3 months old and the other 2 years old - on the second level of the building.

The parents of the children were taken to Springfield Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
