Baseball: Barrington wins championship in Georgia

Barrington's baseball team will leave Georgia as champions of the PG Rawlings Select Classic in Emerson.

The Broncos defeated the Covington Chargers 8-0 in the championship game as Nick Bogaerts (4 innings, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts) and Brad Peters (3 innings, 3 strikeouts, no hits) combined for Barrington's third straight shutout.

Barrington coach Pat Wire told the Perfect Game-USA website that he liked his team's unity in the tourney.

"To me, forget the wins and everything, I just told these guys to have each other's backs," he said to the baseball scouting service website. "You saw the way they stormed the field, these guys don't do it for the trophy they do it for the love of the game.

"These guys just love the game, it's that intangible thing and I just feel that. The best part is we used a lot of guys this tournament. We've been here since Monday. We used a lot of guys and between varsity and the junior varsity, I think we only lost two games. And that's great result-wise, but I think most importantly we figured out who we are as a team when we head back to Illinois."
