Baseball: Grayslake Central tops Zion-Benton
Benton Troehler went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, Nick Presutti was also 2-for-3 and knocked in a run, and Grayslake Central's baseball team returned from its Florida trip to beat Zion-Benton 5-2 in its home opener Saturday.
Coby Moe pitched 3 innings, allowing 1 unearned run, striking out two and walking one. Justin Shepley followed up with 2 innings of work, and Clay Stoffel and Bryce Gniadek (save) each threw a frame.
Grayslake Central (5-1) took the lead for good with a 2-run third and added two more in the fourth to go up 4-1.
Mundelein 3, Solorio 1: Zach Zentz earned the win, as the host Mustangs improved to 7-0.
Lakes 11, Lexington 3: Quinn McQuade's 3-run homer highlighted a 4-run fourth inning, snapping a 2-2 tie, as the Eagles went on to capture a win over their Alabama opponent.
McQuade finished 2-for-3, and Jason Volpe was 2-for-2 for Lakes, which also got a triple from Ryan Selig. Joe Glassey pitched 5 innings for the win, allowing 2 runs (1 earned).
Libertyville 2, South Medford 1: On Friday in Arizona, Scott Hay, Dan Richardson and Billy Krumm combined on a 2-hitter, and the Wildcats scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth to knock off their Oregon opponent.
Dan Marks was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Libertyville (5-2). Hay pitched 4 scoreless innings, allowing just 1 hit. Krumm earned the win, pitching 1⅔ innings in relief.
