Baseball: Barrington's Gosswein gets 2-hit shutout in Georgia

While the rain played havoc with baseball action in the northwest suburbs, the show went on for teams that were out of state for spring break.

One of those clubs was Barrington, which split a pair games in Georgia on Thursday.

The Broncos defeated Walker High School (Jaspar, AL), 13-0, in five innings and dropped a 4-3 decision to Rock Bridge High School (Columbia, MO) at the LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson.

Senior Brooks Gosswein threw a 2-hitter with 4 strikeouts and no walks to earn the shutout win against Walker.

The Broncos led 1-0 after three innings and then put up 11 runs in the fourth.

Leading the offense were Tyler Trojan (1-for-3, 3 RBI, triple, 1 run), Clark Elliott (1-for-3, 3 RBI, 1 run), Eric Kozlowski (2-for-2, 2 RBI, walk), Sean Davis (1-for-2, RBI, 1 run), Jeff Korus (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 1 run). Michael Zavoli and David Mitchell each scored 2 runs.

In the loss to Rock Bridge, Tyler Acosta (3-for-3, 2 doubles, 2 runs, RBI) and Elliott (3-for-4, triple, 1 run) led the Barrington offense.

Buffalo Grove 6, Middleton (WI) 2: Playing in the Florida sunshine, Buffalo Grove used John Lundgren (5⅔ innings) and John Carpinelli (1⅓ innings) to handle the pitching duties.

Trailing 2-1 BG pushed across 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Chase Marsh (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and John Lundgren (2-for-3, double, run) led the Bison offense which also received hits from Leo Rule, Carpinelli, Riley Rundquist (double), Tyler Rundquist (RBI) and Mike Gran (2 RBI).

BG also tied 6-6 with Eastview High School (Apple Valley, MN) as Zach Fricke (2-for-3, RBI, run) and Rule (2-for-4, run) were multiple hitters for the Bison.

Hersey 14, Medina (TN) 6: Cristian Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, 6 RBI and 2 run (3-for-4, 2 runs as Hersey (2-1-1) belted 14 hits.

Tyler Haffey (2-for-3, 2 runs, RBI, double) and Alberto Garcia (2-for-3, 2 RBI, run) also homered for the Huskies who are playing in Union City, TN.

Other top hitters for the Huskies were Mark Losacco (2-for-3, 2 runs), Cade O'Neal (1-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Nick Wiley (1-for-3, RBI, double), Ian Ziggenhorn (1-for-1, RBI), Sam Alonzo (1-for-2, 2 runs) and AJ Ceffalio (1-for-2, 2 runs, RBI).

Brian Massaccesi went four innings for the win (6 strikeouts, 6 hits) while Jake Irwin threw the final inning, striking out two and allowing no hits.

Brighton (CO) 7, St. Viator 6: Playing in Arizona, Jack Sinnema (home run), Cole Kmet,(double), Hunter Johnson, Casey Kmet, and Jack Mahoney were among the Lions who had at least 1 hit.
