Baseball: Hoffman Estates rallies past Plainfield East

The Hoffman Estates baseball team rallied for a 5-3 victory over Plainfield East on Wednesday, giving coach Chuck Abbott his first varsity victory with the Hawks.

An error in the 10th inning allowed the decisive runs to score.

Dakota Slingerland had an RBI double as Hoffman Estates (1-2) scored 3 runs in the sixth inning.

Kurt Foy earned the win. He tossed 2 strong innings.

Jon Keller started and pitched 5 innings, allowing 3 runs, 6 hits and striking out two.

Hersey 10, Halls (Tenn.) 0: Quinn Gudaitis struck out eight and didn't allow a walk in tossing a 6-inning shutout.

Gudaitis allowed 2 hits tossed 46 of his 64 pitches for strikes.

Tyler Caffey homered and drove in 3 runs, and Christian Rodriguez also homered for Hersey (1-1-1).

Bartlett 3, Prospect 1: The Knights slipped to 1-3 as the visiting Hawks scored twice in the sixth inning to break up a game that had been tied.

Richie Baszek tripled and had 2 hits, and Ryan Roggeman had a double for Prospect.

Elk Grove 5, Oswego 4: The host Grens rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the sixth, and needed each one of them as Oswego produced 3 of its own in the top half of the seventh.

Nick Hoffman homered and finished 2-for-3 for Elk Grove (3-2), and AJ Navarro also had 2 hits.

Palatine 6, Crystal Lake Central 2: Zach Oles, Josh Stitt and Jake Andersen each collected multiple hits and the visiting Pirates (2-4) stole a total of 7 bases in picking up a nonconference victory.

Evan Daly had another strong start for Palatine, allowing 1 earned run in 6⅔ innings with 3 strikeouts, in gaining the victory.

Conant 15, Maine West 2: The Cougars plated 6 runs in the sixth inning to bring an early end to a nonconference victory in Des Plaines.

C.J. Deshazer and Mason Sykes both doubled and had 2 hits as part of a 13-hit attack by Conant (1-4). Tim Fauth and Dave Sapyta also had 2 hits for the Cougars, and Joe Kawalek got the win after allowing 2 earned runs while striking out seven in 4 innings.
