Softball: Carmel wins twice in Alabama
Carmel's softball team got its spring break trip to Alabama off to a good start Monday by winning a pair of games to remain undefeated on the season.
The Corsairs (4-0) beat Sweetwater (Ala,) 17-5 in their first game, as Karina Falkstrom (3 RBI) and Lauren Cafferelli (2 runs, RBI) both went 2-for-2. Jen Giesey was 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, and Sydney Schuda earned the win to improve to 3-0.
In Game 2, Jordan Swiatkowski belted a grand slam and finished 2-for-3, as Carmel blanked Brewster (Ala.) 8-0. Cafferelli was 2-for-2, and Marla Walinski picked up the win.
Willoughby South 14, Grayslake North 4: In Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports, Grayslake North had 5 errors and gave up 18 hits to Willoughby of Ohio.
The winning pitcher from Willoughby, Riley Frizell, has already committed to Missouri.
Grace Brown finished with a double and 3 RBI for Grayslake North. while Katie Moats and Faith Standerski both had doubles.
Warren goes 2-1: On its spring break trip, Warren defeated Siegel 13-5 and Riverdale 7-2 but lost to Beech 10-2.
Against Siegel, Caitlyn Britton and Kayla Nommensen each hit home runs and Britton drove in a total of 3 runs.
Emily Hudgins, Claire Swedberg and Erika Jimenez each had 2 hits.
Pitcher Kinsey Jasnoch got the win.
Against Riverdale, Swedberg got 3 hits while Britton, Jimenez and Emma Gratz added 2 hits apeice.
Britton got the win, pitching 5 innings.
Against Beech, Warren made 3 errors and gave up 13 hits.
