Softball: Buffalo Grove goes 3-1 in Florida

Playing in the Florida sunshine over spring break, the Buffalo Grove softball team added some brightness to the win column of their record.

After dropping their first game in Tampa, the Bison won three consecutive to improve their overall record to 4-2.

Lecanto High School (Fla.) edged the Bison 7-6 in the first game as Grace Gran had a double and 2 RBI. Jackie Bickhaus and Olivia Morini each singled.

BG gained its first win n the trip with a 12-7 decision over West Point (Fla.) as Morini collected 3 hits and 2 RBI while Kaitlyn O'Rourke, Bailey Williams and Maggie Wydra each had 2 hits.

Gran and Jasmine Avalos each doubled while freshman Megan Fontanetta had a triple with 3 RBI and was the winning pitcher.

In its third game, BG posted a four-inning 17-0 shutout over Passaic Valley (NJ).

Winning pitcher Alyssa DePhillips and Bickhaus each had a pair of hits while Avalos, Gran and Williams (2 RBI) all doubled. Morini had 3 RBI.

The Bison picked up their third win with a 9-2 decision over the same Passaic Valley team.

Lauren Beiersdorf led the offense with 3 hits, including a triple and Morini had a double with 3 RBI. Williams and Wydra each had 2 RBI and Fontanetta earned her second win in Florida.

Hoffman Estates 13, Larkin 3 (5 inn): Hoffman Estates got its first win as senior pitcher Megan Amato (1-1) threw a 3-hitter with 5 strikeouts at the Rosemont Dome.

Hawks senior Brynn Connelly, who went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI, missed the cycle by a home run.

Mary Bean was also 3-for-4 with a double for the Hawks (1-2) while teammate Martina DeAstis, a junior, went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI.

Hawks sophomore Kaelyn Kramp doubled for her first varsity hit.

Alexa Urbanik (2-for-2, 2 runs) and Hannah Gross (2-for-3, double, RBI) led Larkin.
